I Told You Waitressing Is Dangerous

On December 30, 2011, a waitress was severely beaten by four customers because they received the wrong meals. The waitress was working at a Red Lobster restaurant in Illinois.

There are so many things I can say about this; however, I am going to keep it short and invite you all to read the story at Daily Mail. I chose not to watch the videos because I am rather sensitive to violent images.

What strikes me after the initial shock that diners would commit assault and battery on a waitress, causing injuries including a black eye, is that there is no mention of management in the article. I believe the videos were taken by other customers on their cell phones. Anybody who has the stomach to watch is welcome to elaborate in the comments section.

The article claims that the four women left the restaurant after the assault. While leaving, they were still unidentified. I assume somebody called the police because the women were later identified and at least one arrested.

I told you waitressing was dangerous work. We don't get paid enough to put up with this ****.

  1. You should be fine, the video is only the aftermath. The waitstaff are the only ones visible. The women taking the video talk about what was going on.

  2. This is scary! How on earth do these women connect this waitress's mistake with her deserving to be assaulted. I hope every single one of them get a really stiff sentence.

My daughter is a hostess and she wants to be a server so that she can start getting tips, but this is very alarming.

  3. @anon: thanks! :)

@Diane: Even though this happened last December and was updated in April, it showed up in my news alerts yesterday. ??? Not sure why; sometimes something very interesting pops up and then I realize it is old.

I, too, hope they get a really stiff sentence. While it is completely besides the point, it is possible it wasn't even the waitress's mistake. There were more people running food, based on the article. I know, it doesn't matter because the customer response was grossly inappropriate and dangerous, who cares whose mistake it was.

Perhaps your daughter is working at a restaurant with a more civilized clientele. :-) I wish her well.

    1. yes it is..I work at one and we have some really mean looking ones come in with those "curly fries" long fingernails and they run your legs off, and laugh at you to your face..you have to do as they say or they will get a free dinner and you get written up..they do not tip enough for your tip out and many have let their "lone star" food stamps card fall out of their wallet..I had to use food stamps once in my life for little while and I was grateful..I guess RL better start taking stamp cards like mcdonalds...
