Yom Ha'Shoah

Holocaust Remembrance Day falls this year on April 18.

Two poems for you to think about today. Please remember your blessings, and do not forget to care for the needs of others.

She didn’t cry
When they removed
her clothes, her ring
her shoes, her hair.
But when they took away
her name
She wept

          ~ Anna Sotto

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Martin Niemöller

  1. I'm more familiar with the second of those two. I think I've heard the first somewhere along the lines...
